Bookish Monthly Wrap-up

October Wrap-up

It’s Friday & I’m breaking all the rules! ⚡️🎸😝🤘🏻💔

I talk a lot about being a mood reader here 🔮✨🌝, and while I really enjoy participating in all the bookstagram things, like our monthly wrap-ups and TBRs, I don’t always feel like it is a true representation of my reading life.

Showing only the books I’ve finished doesn’t speak to the way my mind works, the relationship I have with reading (which is unique to all of us), and the time I actually spend in the worlds of books.

So, I’m doing it a little different this time around! The front stack are the five books I completed in October (all of which were actually on my TBR, woo-hoo!), and the back are the other four books that I spent time reading, and are in various stages of completion. I like this.

It feels like more of a visual representation of my actual reading life for the month, to me.

Not pictured are the three audiobooks I’ve been listening to (also based on mood) 🎧—A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness, The Rules of Magic by Alice Hoffman, and Circe by Madeline Miller. None of witch (whoops, there I go with the tacky pun again 🧙🏻‍♀️) are finished.

Some of the in-progress October books will transfer over to my November reading list, some of them will remained unfinished for now, and I will revisit them when the time feels right.

Those unfinished books are, The Lonely City, The Secret History, The Blind Assassin (still!), and The Devil in the White City. This last book, I think, may wind up a DNF (very bummed about this, but I’ve owned it for at least a decade, and I still can’t manage to get really pulled in by it ☹️).

As for the books I completed, here’s what I rated them—full reviews to come.

The Incendiaries, R.O. Kwon – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Dead Girls, Alice Bolin – ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Ordeal by Innocence, Agatha Christie – ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

The Changeling, Victor Lavalle – ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

The Haunting of Hill House, Shirley Jackson – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
